Social Media Brand Segments.

It is important to understand the different segments to ones brand following on the social media platforms and outlets. A brand segment is a group of people or audience that has a common element or category. Am example of a brand segment could be a group of followers who might be your customers or a group of followers who might be vendors or affiliations.

The key to brand segmentation is recognizing the different elements and speaking to them differently. In real life how you speak to a customer might be very different to how you speak to a prospect or an affiliate. The challenge with many brands today is they hope to have one status message catered for each social brand segment or unit. This doesn’t work and at times turns people off.

Let’s also not forget some platforms like Face book only allow 20% of your followers to see you posts in their news feed due to the social platform algorithm named Edge rank. Thus it is important to know how to segment your followers and by the use of custom messages or email marketing you can integrate social messaging with email marketing and/or customized messages. These messages will in turn deliver more reactions and engagement than a social broadcast.

Brand Segments include the following:

  • Brand Ambassadors
  • Acquaintances
  • Prospects and leads
  • Customers and consumers
  • Partners and Affiliations
  • Competitors
  • Community and supporters
  • Industry and Brands
  • Suppliers and Vendors
  • Personal Relationships
  • Employees or contractors
