As a home business owner there are many distractions that can take you away from work. Recently surveys outlined that these distractions effected productivity and efficiency. Here are the top distractions to be aware of when working from a home office:

  • Family distractions
  • Chores and domestic responsibility
  • Technological resources and equipment
  • TV, Personal Internet Surfing Social Media and Cell Phone distractions
  • Poor workspace

It is important to set time blocks for work time and avoid distractions within the work space. The other important factor is to have a specified home office where it is set apart from the actual home area.

  1. I totally agree with you about setting aside an area for your home office. It needs to be a place that is “apart” from the rest of the household.

    You need to be able to focus.

    Creating your home office in the basement or attic or in an unused walk-in closet might do the trick.

    Noise-cancelling headphones might also work.

  2. I’ve been thinking of getting some for myself and the ones I am looking at are the Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones (also known as QC15).

    I tried a pair on at Future Shop and they were really pretty good. They’re not cheap though but they’ve got a good reputation.
