An evening with Oprah

Last week I was very fortunate to receive a very expensive ticket to go see Oprah with 16,000 fans at Rogers Arena. I felt like I was at a Justin Bieber concert except the screaming fans were older women. I was one of the few very brave men that made it to the talk. I used to watch Oprah in East Africa where cable television was a novelty and scarce back in the days.

I have a ton of respect for Oprah who gave a very inspirational talk on defining who we are and why we are here on this planet. She emphasized the importance of understanding your purpose and shared some valuable insights on ones personal beliefs and motivations.

Here are some of the amazing quotes and lessons from the evenings events:

  • “Purpose is spirit seeking expression”
  • “We are all spiritual beings having a human experience!”
  • “You become what you believe!”
  • “Beliefs are the lenses through which you see the world.”
  • “Luck is preparation meeting opportunity.”
  • “The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.”
After her amazing talk she was interviewed by George Strombolopolous who managed to ask her some really good questions including the Lance Armstrong interview. Oprah believes that regardless of Lance’s actions, the people love to forgive. She also highlighted people who love to hate are also hiding some of their flaws. When asked about the struggling OWN network she was honest and said she was delusional! She even joked about the headlines saying, “Oprah,Delusional!”
She mentioned that she rushed to start her own network and that while she had a kick ass team doing the Oprah show, the actual network required work and someone to lead the network. She was under the impression it would be smooth sailings but she had no idea how much work it would take to get it going. She even talked about not believing in luck but more being prepared for an opportunity.

Oprah was honest, funny and incredibly motivational. Everyone walked out of the arena feeling inspired. It was a great evening and was a great learning experience.

As a business woman who has accomplished so much she really brought home some very great pointers:

  • Do what you love and be passionate about it
  • Do not let others control your vision
  • Chase your dreams
  • Know your why factor and your purpose
  • Be real with yourself
  • Say no when you have to
  • Believe in yourself

I was at a goddess meeting on prosperity and networking that night and the angel that organized it was speaking of the synchronicity of groups of goddesses in groups in the second most expensive city in the world.
